Coming off two losses to 14th ranked Malvern Prep and 16th Haverford School, Loyola Blakefield responded with a big win over 20th ranked St. Anthony’s.
St. Anthony’s, from New York, met Baltimore’s Loyola on neutral ground at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Ranking 27th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, the Dons entered the game at 1-2, much in need of a win to turn them around. Loyola got just that, taking down the Friars in a powerful 14-5 victory.
Outscoring St. Anthony’s in every quarter, Loyola led 7-3 by the half, doubling its tally in the second half. The Dons’ defense was excellent, stifling the Friars both on and off the ball. Goalie Acie Newton made eight saves in the game.
Offensively, Alex Roesner and Ryan Conrad led the way with three goals and two assists each. Pickett Riehl added on two more goals.
Loyola’s all-around effort resulted in a huge rebound win. Now at 2-2, the Dons prepare for their next game at home against 37th ranked St. Joseph’s Prep on March 26.
