In yet another sterling outing by Loyola Blakefield, the Dons dominated McDonogh. Blakefield hosted its MIAA rivals on April 25, entering the game on an eight-game win streak.
Both teams have had exceptional seasons thus far. The Dons came into the game ranking 15th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and 6th in Maryland, with an 8-1 record. McDonogh, at 10-3, ranked 7th in the nation and 3rd in the state.
Blakefield started things off strong, taking a 2-0 in the first quarter and striking early in the second to lead 3-0. Then McDonogh gained some momentum scoring four consecutive goals, two of which came from man-up advantages. The Dons took another three goals back before the end of the half, to take a 6-4 lead into the break.
Starting right where they left off, Blakefield opened the second half off with two goals, now leading 8-4. From that point on, the Dons always get at least a three-goal cushion for the rest of the game.
By the end of the game, McDonogh took a commanding 13-8 victory.
Alex Roesner led the Dons with five goals and an assist. Cole Williams and Ryan Conrad both had three goals and an assist.
Now 9-1, Loyola Blakefield one has three games remaining, all against nationally ranked MIAA rivals. The Dons first face 21st ranked St. Mary’s Annapolis on April 28, followed by bouts against 7th ranked Boys’ Latin and 18th ranked Calvert Hall.
